Decoding Strands: A How-To Guide

The objective of each Strands puzzle is to uncover the “theme words” concealed within the grid of letters. By dragging or tapping, manipulate the letters to form words. Double-tap the final letter to submit your guess. Correct theme words will highlight in blue and become unselectable.

Finding non-theme words still contributes to your progress. For every three non-theme words of at least four letters, you earn a hint. This hint reveals the letters of a theme word, requiring you to unscramble them.

Every letter in the grid contributes to the theme words, with no letter used more than once and no overlapping letters. Each puzzle features a “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that reflects the puzzle’s theme and spans two opposite edges of the board. The spangram highlights in yellow upon discovery.

The ultimate goal is to solve the puzzle swiftly and efficiently, minimizing the use of hints.
