Dragon Ball Daima has quickly become a weekly highlight for Dragon Ball enthusiasts. Given Bandai Namco’s history with the franchise, its integration into various games is unsurprising. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will feature Daima content in two of its three DLC packs. Furthermore, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and the ever-expanding Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 are also slated to receive characters and content from the new series. While this level of inclusion is certainly exciting, could Dragon Ball Daima warrant its own dedicated game?
The prospect of a standalone Daima game is undeniably appealing. While the inclusion of Daima content as DLC in established titles ensures a crossover experience, a dedicated game could offer a more focused and immersive exploration of the series’ unique narrative and setting.
Dragon Ball games often revisit the Dragon Ball Z storyline, occasionally incorporating elements from Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and the movies. However, a dedicated Daima game could break this mold, focusing on the unexplored territory of the Demon Realm.
Daima’s contained storyline, set after Dragon Ball Z’s Buu Saga, offers a clear narrative framework for game adaptation. The journey into the Demon Realm offers fresh ground for the franchise, and the series’ relatively shorter length compared to Super presents a more manageable narrative to adapt without excessive cuts or additions.
While fighting games are the traditional format for Dragon Ball adaptations, a Daima game could benefit from an RPG approach similar to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. This style, blending exploration with combat, could offer a more immersive experience within the Demon Realm. The PvE focus also allows players to engage with the story and world at their own pace, without the pressure of competitive fighting game mechanics.
Daima’s structure already lends itself well to a game adaptation. The narrative swiftly transports Goku and his companions to the Demon Realm, providing an ideal starting point for an RPG. The series introduces a host of new characters ripe for open-world encounters and story integration. The three distinct Demon Worlds within the Demon Realm offer a natural framework for gated areas and revisiting locations, further supporting the RPG structure.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 DLC Trailer
Controlling Mini Goku in combat would undoubtedly be a draw, but Episode 4, “Chatty,” offers another compelling gameplay concept. The episode features Goku, Shin, and Glorio encountering a village under siege by Gomah’s forces before Panzy intervenes. This scenario, where players could encounter a settlement with existing conflicts and choose how to engage, perfectly embodies the spirit of open-world RPGs. It presents an opportunity to expand upon the show’s narrative without deviating from its core themes.
While a dedicated Dragon Ball Daima RPG may remain a hopeful dream, fans can still look forward to the inclusion of Daima characters in other games. With upcoming DLC for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero and content additions to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, fans can anticipate further adventures with Mini Goku and the rest of the Daima cast.
