Eyes up, Guardians! A new mobile game set in the Destiny universe, Destiny: Rising, has been announced. Developed by NetEase Games in partnership with Bungie, this free-to-play mobile RPG is coming to iOS and Android devices. Set in an alternate timeline during the post-Dark Age era, long before the events of the original Destiny, Destiny: Rising introduces a fresh cast of Lightbearers fighting against oppression alongside the Iron Lords. The game is scheduled to begin its first closed alpha test this November.
A New Chapter in the Destiny Universe
The Destiny franchise, first released in 2014, has primarily been confined to consoles and PC. Destiny: Rising marks the franchise’s first foray into the mobile gaming market. This collaboration with NetEase Games aims to expand the Destiny universe and reach a wider audience with a free-to-play experience on mobile platforms.
Gameplay and Features
Destiny: Rising promises a variety of PvE and PvP content, including a story campaign, cooperative strikes supporting up to six players, challenging raid-like gauntlets, and a new PvP mode called Shifting Gates. The game offers both first-person and third-person perspectives, allowing players to switch between them seamlessly, as showcased in the announcement trailer. While touch controls are supported, the developers recommend using Bluetooth controllers for an optimal gaming experience.
Expanding the Lore and Player Base
Both Bungie and NetEase Games have expressed enthusiasm for this new venture. In a press release, Ethan Wang, senior vice president at NetEase, stated their excitement for bringing an action-packed RPG shooter within the Destiny universe to mobile gamers. Terry Redfield, creative lead at Bungie, added that the Destiny universe has been crafted over a decade to encompass numerous compelling narratives, and they are eager to see mobile players experience this new perspective developed by the creative team at NetEase.
Closed Alpha Test in November
While Destiny: Rising has no official release date yet, a closed alpha test is slated to begin on November 1st. The duration of the alpha test remains unspecified. Players can pre-register for the alpha, and selected participants will be chosen randomly. The alpha test will feature portions of the game’s campaign and at least one map for each game mode.
