Dying Light: The Beast was revealed at Gamescom 2024 with a trailer showcasing the new Castor Woods location. Following a chilling opening depicting soldiers under attack, the trailer reveals the return of Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the original Dying Light. After a decade of captivity and experimentation, Crane has been infused with zombie DNA, granting him the power to transform into the titular Beast. Now free, he embarks on a quest for revenge against his captors.
The Game Awards 2024 brought us the “Meet The Baron” trailer, focusing on a character known as The Baron. While the trailer offers little in terms of plot details beyond The Baron’s monologue about the “code of nature” and observation of Crane’s experimentation, it does establish him as a key figure in Crane’s revenge.
Gameplay

Dying Light: The Beast blurs the lines between a full sequel and DLC. Initially planned as DLC for Dying Light 2, the project’s expanding scope led to an estimated playtime of 18+ hours, positioning it as a standalone experience. Building on the mechanics of Dying Light 2, the game retains the core elements of first-person melee combat, shooting, and parkour. The new open-world map features vehicles, urban environments, and ominous woods. The game also brings back the night cycle, where zombies become significantly more dangerous and aggressive.
The key gameplay innovation lies in Crane’s beast powers, enhancing his strength, agility, and stamina. A dedicated skill tree for the beast form allows players to customize their abilities as they explore the open world, interact with new factions, and choose whether to aid them or not.
Hints of another beast lurking in the woods add another layer of intrigue, leaving players to wonder if it’s another experiment like Crane or something even more sinister.

Preorders for Dying Light: The Beast are not yet generally available. However, owners of the Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition will receive Dying Light: The Beast for free upon release, fulfilling the original promise of DLC inclusion.
