The critically acclaimed Elden Ring, a game that propelled the Souls-like genre to new heights, won’t be getting a direct sequel anytime soon. This news comes directly from FromSoftware President and Elden Ring creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, in a recent interview. While the recent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC continues to fuel excitement within the community, hopes for a full-fledged Elden Ring 2 have been tempered by Miyazaki’s statement.
In an interview with Japanese gaming website Game Watch, Miyazaki addressed the future of the Elden Ring franchise. He stated that FromSoftware is “not considering Elden Ring 2” at this time. However, he didn’t dismiss the possibility of future games exploring the rich lore and world established in Elden Ring, as reported by Eurogamer.

Miyazaki also confirmed that FromSoftware has other projects currently in development, though he remained tight-lipped about specific details. Speculation abounds regarding the studio’s next title, with some theories pointing towards a new Armored Core installment. This speculation stems from job postings earlier this year, hinting at a game set in a futuristic world. With a potential acquisition by Sony looming, FromSoftware is likely keeping its future plans under wraps.
Elden Ring achieved both commercial and critical success, amassing a dedicated fanbase. This passionate community includes a group working on an anime adaptation of the game. A sequel would undoubtedly be another hit for FromSoftware. However, the studio is known for keeping fans waiting, offering minimal clues about sequels, much to the chagrin of Bloodborne fans, for example.
While a direct sequel seems unlikely in the near future, a game set in a different era within the Elden Ring universe remains a possibility. Imagine a game with a similar combat system, but set during the chaotic events of The Shattering. Such a scenario would undoubtedly provide a thrilling and unique gaming experience.
While Elden Ring 2 isn’t currently on the cards, the potential for further exploration of the Lands Between remains. Fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting news of FromSoftware’s next project.
