Fortnite players can look forward to a significant change in how they earn experience starting this December. Epic Games recently announced a streamlined progression system that allows players to simultaneously earn experience for all three battle passes: Battle Royale, Music (formerly Festival), and Lego.
Currently, the Battle Royale pass allows players to progress through the track by playing any part of Fortnite. However, this hasn’t been the case for the Festival and Lego passes, tied to Fortnite Festival and Lego Fortnite, respectively. This is set to change after the current seasons and passes conclude later this year.

This simplified system aims to make earning rewards like skins easier. However, Epic also announced that pass rewards will be directly purchasable with V-Bucks, though with a purchase limit.
Starting with Season 6 on November 2nd, the Fortnite Festival’s Festival Pass will be rebranded as the Music Pass. The Lego Pass will follow suit on December 1st. Along with unified experience progression across all Fortnite experiences, free and premium tracks will be merged into one. This means Festival Points, Battle Stars, and Studs will be phased out when the respective games transition to the new system.
This consolidation aims to simplify reward progression. With a single currency and no restrictions on how you advance through each track, players can earn experience by playing any part of Fortnite they choose. Epic stated in their blog post, “We hope this change encourages you to play where you want, how you want!”
These changes follow a series of recent adjustments by Epic Games, seemingly scaling back some of Fortnite’s more aggressive monetization tactics, although the option to directly purchase items from the pass suggests not all are disappearing. In August, Epic announced that certain limited-time items would be available for purchase in the Shop 18 months after their associated battle passes expire. These changes coincide with Fortnite’s return to mobile app stores.
These updates to the battle pass system promise a more streamlined and flexible experience for Fortnite players, allowing them to earn rewards by playing the modes they enjoy most. While the option to purchase items directly raises some questions, the overall simplification should be a welcome change for many.
