Warner Bros. has confirmed that a sequel to the hit action-adventure game Hogwarts Legacy is in development and a high priority for the company. In a recent interview with Variety, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment President David Haddad revealed the first details about this much-anticipated follow-up.
Haddad stated that the sequel is a “very big priority,” acknowledging the significant fan demand for more experiences within the Hogwarts universe. He emphasized the company’s commitment to crafting “authentic experiences” to satisfy fans’ desires. Furthermore, Haddad confirmed collaboration between the gaming and television divisions of Warner Bros. to ensure consistent “big-picture storytelling elements” between the game sequel and the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series.
Addressing the involvement of J.K. Rowling in the sequel and other Harry Potter projects, Robert Oberschelp, Warner Bros. Discovery’s head of global consumer products, stated that any expansions beyond established canon will be carefully considered to ensure collective comfort and agreement.
The phenomenal success of Hogwarts Legacy has undoubtedly fueled Warner Bros.’ renewed focus on the Harry Potter franchise. The game, developed by Avalanche Software, became the bestselling game of 2023, surpassing even Call of Duty in sales. According to Variety, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 30 million copies as of October 2024, further solidifying the decision to prioritize a sequel and its alignment with the television series.
