Mega Evolutions, a popular gameplay mechanic from Pokémon X and Y, are making a comeback. After being absent from recent titles like Pokémon Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet, The Pokémon Company has confirmed their return in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A game. This resurgence also extends to the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), promising an exciting new chapter for collectors and players.

Recent trademarks filed in Japan hint at two upcoming TCG sets: “Mega Brave” and “Mega Symphony.” While release dates remain unconfirmed, trademarks typically precede set releases by 6-8 months. Considering the typical alignment of TCG set releases with new game launches, and the expected release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A in 2025, these sets likely tie into the game’s Mega Evolution theme. This timeline aligns with previous releases, such as the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet TCG expansion, launched roughly four months after the corresponding games.

The annual Pokémon Day event on February 27th, commemorating the original Pokémon Red and Green release, often reveals crucial information. Last year’s Pokémon Presents stream announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and this year’s stream is expected to provide further details, including a potential release window. Fans also anticipate news about potential new Mega Evolutions, expanding beyond those seen in previous games.

The Pokémon Day stream could also shed light on Mega Evolution’s TCG integration. While the “Mega Brave” and “Mega Symphony” trademarks suggest a later release, The Pokémon Company has a history of early reveals. The return of Trainer’s Pokémon, announced during the August Pokémon World Championships, serves as a prime example, with releases staggered between Japan and North America.
