Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation have unveiled initial details about MLB The Show 25, hinting at significant changes compared to the previous iteration. The most notable shift for the upcoming baseball game is the removal of the Sets and Seasons feature from Diamond Dynasty mode, as announced in a recent PlayStation Blog post.
Diamond Dynasty Revamped: No More Sets and Seasons
The Sets and Seasons feature, introduced in MLB The Show 24, received considerable criticism from players. It restricted the use of cards acquired in Diamond Dynasty mode to their respective seasons, limiting team-building options and overall gameplay flexibility. While intended to enhance the game’s live-service elements, it ultimately proved unpopular. MLB The Show 25 will address this by allowing cards to be used across all seasons and throughout the game’s lifecycle. The developers at Sony San Diego acknowledged the community feedback, stating, “We appreciate the feedback from our community and have also decided that Sets and Seasons will not be returning in MLB The Show 25, allowing every card to be used freely throughout the year.”
Bridging the Gap: Changes Coming to MLB The Show 24
The removal of Sets and Seasons isn’t exclusive to the upcoming title. Starting with Season 4, MLB The Show 24 will also adopt this change. New “Now & Later” MLB The Show packs, usable in MLB The Show 24 starting this Friday, will facilitate this transition and demonstrate the developers’ responsiveness to player concerns. This update allows players to experience the revised card system ahead of MLB The Show 25‘s release.
Further Enhancements and Cross-Platform Availability
Beyond the Diamond Dynasty adjustments, Sony San Diego has hinted at further improvements. Players can anticipate modifications to Road to the Show customization options, enhanced metrics in Franchise mode, and more. Specific details regarding these enhancements will be revealed later.
While developed and published by Sony in partnership with MLB, the MLB The Show series has maintained its presence on Xbox consoles, and MLB The Show 25 is expected to follow suit. Given MLB The Show 24‘s availability on Xbox Game Pass, it’s reasonable to anticipate a similar release strategy for the upcoming installment.
Looking Ahead to MLB The Show 25
The removal of Sets and Seasons signifies a significant change to MLB The Show 25‘s Diamond Dynasty mode. By addressing player feedback and prioritizing card versatility, Sony San Diego aims to enhance the overall gameplay experience. With further refinements planned for other game modes, MLB The Show 25 is poised to build upon its predecessor and offer baseball fans a more engaging and customizable experience.
