The PlayStation 5 Pro launches on November 7th, and with it comes a flurry of questions. Will the $700 price tag be justified? How significant are the graphical and performance improvements? And, importantly for some, will existing PS5 Slim faceplates be compatible? While performance benchmarks await reviews, we now have a definitive answer regarding cover compatibility: PS5 Slim covers will not fit the PS5 Pro.
A PlayStation spokesperson confirmed to IGN that “PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro. However, players will be able to swap out different console covers for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future.”
This confirmation follows online speculation sparked by a Reddit user who reported incompatibility issues with their cobalt blue PS5 Slim plates and the PS5 Pro. Although the consoles share similar dimensions, the user found only the bottom plate fit correctly. The top plate’s connecting mechanisms were misaligned, preventing proper attachment.

Previously, compatibility remained ambiguous. Sony Interactive Entertainment co-CEO Hideaki Nishino’s PlayStation Blog announcement only mentioned the ability to add a disc drive or “swap out console covers when they become available,” hinting at PS5 Pro-specific covers without explicitly confirming their exclusivity.
The PS5 Pro’s $700 price point excludes a disc drive, which adds another $80 through PlayStation Direct. Current PS5 Slim covers retail for $60 for standard colors and $65 for chroma variants. Pricing for PS5 Pro faceplates remains undisclosed, but it’s safe to assume they won’t be cheap.
In conclusion, while the PS5 Pro shares some physical similarities with the PS5 Slim, their covers are not interchangeable. Sony plans to release dedicated PS5 Pro covers, but pricing and availability details are still pending. For those eager to personalize their new console, patience will be key.
