The Resident Evil remake train might be pulling into the station again, and if rumors are true, fans could be boarding sooner than expected. Capcom’s successful revitalization of the survival horror franchise began with the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 Remake in 2019, followed by Resident Evil 3 Remake in 2020 and the recent triumph of Resident Evil 4 Remake. These remakes have proven to be both critically and commercially successful, making them a smart investment for Capcom in today’s challenging AAA games market. The question remains: what classic survival horror experience will be resurrected next?
While many have speculated that Resident Evil 5 is the next logical step, others believe Capcom might revisit earlier entries like the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, or Resident Evil 0. A recent leak suggests that the latter might be the case, with Resident Evil 0 being primed for a modern makeover.
This leak originates from Dusk Golem, a prominent and generally reliable Resident Evil insider. While described as “educated speculation,” hinting at a mix of insider knowledge and conjecture, Dusk Golem posits that Resident Evil 0 Remake is indeed the next project and could be launching in the near future.
The original Resident Evil 0 was a GameCube exclusive upon release, and interestingly, the remake is rumored to be linked to the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor, potentially as a launch title or marketing partnership. With rumors swirling about a March release for the new console, the timing seems plausible.
Dusk Golem stated, “The Switch successor is also on the cusp of being revealed, likely released this year. I think it’s highly likely that Capcom will strike a marketing deal with Nintendo on their big reimagining of Resident Evil 0. It should make a good entry point to the franchise, the ‘Beginning of the Story,’ and a big name AAA game to release in the Switch successors launch year. I do think Resident Evil 0 will release on everything, either at once or eventually, however.”
It’s crucial to approach this leak with caution, as the extent of insider information versus speculation remains unclear. While Dusk Golem has a strong track record with Resident Evil leaks, they haven’t always been perfect.
As of now, Capcom has remained silent on this speculation, and for various reasons, we don’t anticipate an official statement anytime soon. However, should any new information emerge, we will update this article accordingly.
