The box office hit Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is speeding onto home screens sooner than you think. Paramount has officially announced the digital release date for Tuesday, January 21st, allowing fans to rent or own the movie digitally. For those who prefer a physical copy, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on April 15th, including a collectible Steelbook edition.

The third installment in the popular Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise, released theatrically on December 20th, sees the return of familiar faces like Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Lee Majdoub. The film also introduces Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog, a pivotal character adapted from the Sonic Adventure 2 video game for the Dreamcast.

While Paramount hasn’t officially confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog 4, reports suggest a spring 2027 theatrical release, aligning with the previous films’ release patterns. Producer Toby Ascher previously expressed enthusiasm for continuing the series, stating, “I don’t see us slowing down.” Beyond a fourth film, the possibility of spin-offs, perhaps a streaming series like Knuckles or a solo film focusing on another character, remains open, fueled by rumors and a suggestive post-credit scene.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise has become a remarkable success story. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 alone has amassed over $420 million globally, contributing to the franchise’s impressive $1 billion total box office revenue. The home release is expected to further broaden the film’s reach, potentially engaging a wider audience, especially those who may not frequent movie theaters.
