Niantic has officially confirmed Sprigatito as the star of January’s Pokemon Go Community Day. Mark your calendars for Sunday, January 5th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time. Evolving Floragato during the event or up to five hours after (by 10 p.m. local time) will reward players with a Meowscarada that knows the powerful Featured Attack, Frenzy Plant.
Prior to the official announcement, a teaser video seemingly intended for a later release was briefly published by the Brazilian Pokemon Go account. The video showcased a field of flowers with Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokemon, making a brief appearance accompanied by its distinctive cry, followed by the familiar Community Day logo. Though quickly removed, the video was saved and shared by numerous Pokemon fans online.
Shiny Sprigatito in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
The January 5th date aligns with the previously announced Community Day schedule for next month. With the Grass Cat Pokemon officially revealed, trainers can now prepare for the upcoming event.
Shiny Sprigatito and its evolutions offer subtle differences from their standard counterparts. Shiny Sprigatito’s fur is a slightly lighter green, and its darker markings appear in a deeper shade. The most noticeable change lies in their eye color: normally pink, the Shiny versions of Sprigatito, Floragato, and Meowscarada sport striking purple eyes. Similarly, the flowers adorning Floragato and Meowscarada also shift from pink to purple in their Shiny forms. While these variations might be understated, they add a unique appeal for Shiny hunters.
Sprigatito’s confirmation as the January Community Day Pokemon strongly suggests that Fuecoco and Quaxly, the remaining starters from the Paldea region, will likely be featured in subsequent 2025 Community Day events. Niantic has established a pattern of spotlighting a region’s starter Pokemon throughout a single year. This precedent was seen in 2024 with the Alolan starters (Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio) and in 2023 with the Kalos starters (Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie). While Niantic has generally followed each generation’s release order, the Galar starters (Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble) appear to be bypassed for now, having been recently introduced to Pokemon Go.
While confirming Sprigatito for Community Day, Niantic also teased the arrival of another Scarlet and Violet Pokemon: Fidough, the Fairy-type puppy Pokemon. Details remain scarce, but Fidough’s debut in Pokemon Go is anticipated sometime in January.
In conclusion, January’s Community Day promises an exciting opportunity to catch Sprigatito and its Shiny form, as well as evolve it into a powerful Meowscarada with the exclusive move Frenzy Plant. The event also hints at further additions from the Paldea region to Pokemon Go in the near future.
