Ghost Town Games, the creators of the popular co-op cooking game Overcooked, unveiled their latest project, Stage Fright, at The Game Awards 2024. This new cooperative game promises a blend of chaotic gameplay reminiscent of Overcooked with a spooky, magical setting and escape room-style puzzles.
While distinct from the fast-paced kitchen chaos of Overcooked, Stage Fright shares a similar cooperative spirit. Imagine Overcooked meets Luigi’s Mansion, wrapped in a charming narrative. Unlike its predecessor, Stage Fright boasts a heartwarming story, described by publisher Hello Games as having “real heart.”
Hello Games, known for No Man’s Sky, is publishing Stage Fright due to their long-standing relationship with Ghost Town Games, which began during the development of Overcooked. The original chaotic cooking game was the brainchild of Phil Duncan, Oli De-Vine, and Gemma Langford.

“Phil and Oli visited us about 10 years ago, seeking advice on a very early Overcooked demo,” explained Tim Woodley, Head of Publishing at Hello Games, in an email to MaagX. “We fondly remember the four Hello Games founders playing that demo, yelling at each other about onions. We knew instantly it was something special.”
This shared history motivated Hello Games to support Ghost Town Games’ next venture. “We offer our experience and support, but honestly, we’re thrilled to collaborate with such creative individuals we enjoy working with,” Woodley added. “Playing an early version of Stage Fright evoked the same excitement we felt with Overcooked years ago. We simply had to be involved.”
This collaboration between two renowned indie studios promises an exciting new entry in the cooperative gaming space. Stage Fright blends familiar chaotic gameplay with a fresh, spooky atmosphere and a heartwarming narrative, setting the stage for another potential indie hit.
