Special Orders board in Stardew Valley.Stardew Valley players on console and mobile platforms can finally rejoice! The highly anticipated 1.6 update, bringing a wealth of new content, is now available. This significant update introduces a new farm type, expanded NPC interactions, fresh events, and numerous other additions detailed in the official changelog.
PC players have enjoyed the 1.6 update since its March 19th release, leaving console and mobile users eagerly awaiting its arrival for nearly eight months. Developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone addressed the delay on X (formerly Twitter) in July, explaining that the porting process was taking longer than anticipated. He later clarified that the console and mobile ports were the team’s “primary focus,” even halting development on his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, to prioritize the Stardew Valley 1.6 update.
Chicken coop in Stardew Valley. The extended timeframe for console and mobile releases stems from the more complex bug fixing process for these platforms. Barone emphasized his commitment to resolving all PC bugs before finalizing the console and mobile versions, aiming for a polished experience across all platforms. “The truth is, I didn’t expect console to take this long, but there have been technical issues with the porting process,” he explained on X. He acknowledged the delay, stating, “I was originally hoping it would be maybe, 1 month apart max. At any rate, I feel bad about it.”
Be aware of a known bug affecting the new Meadowlands Farm: opening the coop door on the first day can lead to disappearing chickens. While Barone jokingly attributed this to a “wild coyote” on X, a fix is currently in development. He also acknowledged an issue with the PlayStation version in Europe, assuring players that the team is working to resolve it “ASAP.”
Meadowlands Farm in Stardew Valley. For those diving into the console or mobile version, starting a new save with the Meadowlands Farm is highly recommended. This unique farm type, featuring distinctive blue grass and a pre-built chicken coop, offers a fresh perspective on gameplay, particularly with the new festivals and events.
Beyond the substantial 1.6 update, Barone also released a smaller 1.6.9 update for all platforms. This update introduces a Lost Items Shop where players can spend 10,000 gold to recover irreplaceable items like statue decorations, furniture, cosmetics, and even a mysterious item listed as “???” on the official wiki. The 1.6.9 update also includes new Easter eggs and hidden cheat commands, adding further depth to the Stardew Valley experience. So, fire up your consoles and mobile devices and get ready to experience the latest and greatest Stardew Valley has to offer.
