The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are known for their arcade brawling adventures, but developer Strange Scaffold is taking a different approach with their latest game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown. This marks the first time the heroes in a half-shell, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, will star in a turn-based tactical RPG. The game’s unique aesthetic features characters presented as figurines on detailed dioramas, offering a fresh visual experience. With 20 levels spread across individual campaigns for each turtle, players will experience the story from each brother’s perspective.

Tactical Takedown presents a unique narrative within the TMNT universe. Both Splinter and Shredder are deceased, leaving the turtles older and divided in the wake of their master’s passing. While the Shredder is gone, the Foot Clan remains, now led by a new, yet-to-be-revealed antagonist. The game’s key art hints that Karai may be the one in charge. The trailer below provides a glimpse into the game’s turn-based combat system.

Strange Scaffold, known for well-received titles like El Paso, Elsewhere, I Am Your Beast, and Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, brings their experience to the TMNT franchise. These previous games have garnered “Very Positive” to “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, suggesting Tactical Takedown is in capable hands. The game’s soundtrack, described as “multi-genre,” is composed by RJ Lake, Strange Scaffold’s primary composer. The trailer showcases a sample of Lake’s work for Tactical Takedown.

Currently, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown is only announced for Steam. While console and mobile fans have expressed interest in a wider release, no official announcements have been made. Given the TMNT franchise’s history on consoles, and the demand from fans, a future release on other platforms is plausible. As of now, pricing and release date for the Steam version remain undisclosed.
