Turtle Beach Stealth Pro Wireless Headset Review: Powerful Audio for FPS Gamers Turtle Beach Stealth Pro Wireless Headset Review: Powerful Audio for FPS Gamers

The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro Wireless gaming headset stands among the top-tier premium gaming headsets, delivering impressive sound and extensive customization options for an optimized gaming experience. This review delves into its features, performance, and overall value.

Design and Build

The Stealth Pro boasts a sleek and sophisticated design, resembling a premium pair of headphones. Its metal-reinforced headband and frame provide durability, surviving daily commutes and rigorous use. The earcups rotate 180 degrees, and the adjustable headband ensures a comfortable fit. While the earcup tilt is limited, it’s sufficient to prevent head and neck strain. The plush leatherette ear cushions offer excellent comfort during long gaming sessions, though they might get slightly warm during intense gameplay.

Controls and Connectivity

Controls are strategically placed on both earcups, with most located on the right inner earcup. These controls allow for easy access to volume adjustment, power, Bluetooth, ANC, and SuperHuman Hearing. The left earcup houses a large mixer wheel surrounding the volume button, which can be customized for additional functions like game chat mixing or multimedia controls via the Audio Hub app. The Stealth Pro offers broad compatibility, working seamlessly with Xbox, PC, PlayStation 5, Mac, Nintendo Switch, and mobile phones. While our review unit was designed for Xbox, a PlayStation variant is also available. Connection is achieved through a wireless transmitter with a USB-C to USB-A cable. Unfortunately, a direct wired analog connection isn’t supported. Dual wireless connectivity is provided via 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1, with the latter supporting simultaneous mode for gaming and phone calls. However, only the SBC audio codec is supported for Bluetooth.

Gaming Performance

Powered by 50mm neodymium drivers, the Stealth Pro delivers a powerful audio experience, with punchy bass and crisp treble, ideal for FPS games where explosions, footsteps, and other critical sounds are paramount. The SuperHuman Hearing feature further enhances these sounds, though it slightly diminishes other audio elements. While the mid-range tones might seem a bit flat compared to some competitors, it doesn’t detract from the overall immersive experience. The headset’s moderate clamp pressure and effective passive noise isolation minimize environmental distractions, even without ANC enabled. The lack of built-in spatial audio is a notable omission, especially for a premium FPS-focused headset. Battery life is limited to 12 hours, considerably shorter than some competitors. However, the included swappable battery and charging capability within the transmitter ensure continuous playtime. The detachable microphone offers clear voice transmission and the flexibility to use the headset as regular headphones.

Software and Features

The Turtle Beach Audio Hub app for Windows, Android, and iOS offers extensive customization options, enabling users to create audio presets, adjust EQ settings, and fine-tune the SuperHuman Hearing feature for different games and media. This level of control allows users to optimize their audio experience based on their preferences and the specific game they’re playing.

Conclusion

The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro Wireless is a compelling choice for gamers seeking powerful audio. Its premium build, cross-device compatibility, and punchy sound optimized for FPS titles are significant advantages. While the lack of spatial audio and shorter battery life are drawbacks, the swappable battery and versatile software mitigate these shortcomings. Overall, the Stealth Pro delivers a high-quality audio experience for discerning gamers.
