Microsoft 365 applications, such as Word and Excel, seamlessly integrate with cloud storage services like OneDrive and SharePoint. While this integration is beneficial for many, some users might prefer a more streamlined “Save As” menu without these options. This guide provides a simple registry tweak to remove OneDrive and SharePoint from the save locations in your Microsoft 365 apps.

This modification involves editing the Windows registry. It’s crucial to follow these instructions precisely, as incorrect registry edits can lead to system instability. Before proceeding, it’s recommended to back up your registry or create a system restore point.

To begin, open the Registry Editor. Type “regedit” into the Windows search bar and select the “Registry Editor” app.

Once you’ve located the correct key, right-click in the right pane of the Registry Editor window. Select “New” and then choose “DWORD (32-bit) Value.” Name this new value “OnlineStorage.”

Double-click the newly created “OnlineStorage” value. A dialog box will appear. In the “Value data” field, change the default value of “0” to one of the following values depending on your desired outcome:

  • 1: Removes “OneDrive – Personal” from the “Save As” menu.
  • 2: Removes SharePoint from the “Save As” menu.
  • 3: Removes all OneDrive and SharePoint references, including the “Add a Place” option.

After entering the desired value, click “OK.” The changes will take effect immediately. Open an Office application like Word or Excel, and the specified cloud storage locations will no longer appear in the “Save As” dialog.

To revert to the default settings, simply delete the “OnlineStorage” value or set its “Value data” back to “0.”

This method provides a quick and efficient way to declutter your “Save As” options in Microsoft 365 and tailor the interface to your specific needs. By selectively removing OneDrive and SharePoint, you can streamline your workflow and focus on the storage locations you use most frequently.
