Back in November, Google announced a helpful feature to simplify package tracking, eliminating the need to navigate through emails or copy-paste tracking numbers. This feature, designed to streamline the monitoring of shipments, is finally available.
This long-awaited package tracking feature is now live, but requires manual activation and is currently exclusive to Android and iOS devices through the Gmail app. Here’s how to enable it:
Android:
- Open the Gmail app and tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner.
- Scroll down and select Settings.
- Choose the desired email account.
- In the account-specific settings, locate Package tracking and check the box.
iOS:
- Open the Gmail app and tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper left corner.
- Scroll down and select Settings.
- Select Data Privacy.
- Check the box for Package tracking.

Once enabled, opening a shipment notification email within the Gmail app will display dynamic tracking information at the top, showing the delivery status – shipped, in transit, or delivered. While this convenient feature is currently limited to the mobile app, the web version is expected soon. In the meantime, perhaps use the extra time to organize your inbox.
