Google’s Gemini AI is receiving a significant upgrade for iPhone users with the introduction of its Deep Research feature. Previously available on Android, this powerful tool is now being rolled out to iPhones in phases. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t worry; it may take a short while to reach all devices.

Deep Research utilizes advanced reasoning and extensive contextual understanding to function as a personal research assistant. It can delve into complex subjects and compile comprehensive reports, offering in-depth analysis on virtually any topic. However, this thoroughness comes at a cost: time.

Expect a single query to take between five and ten minutes to process, involving multiple searches as Gemini explores the subject. The AI will pursue promising leads and delve deeper into relevant information until it generates a satisfactory answer. You won’t need to keep the Gemini app open during the research process; a notification will alert you upon completion.

Google has implemented limits on both the daily usage and concurrent requests for Deep Research, likely due to the resource-intensive nature of the feature. While not ideal for quick answers, it’s a valuable tool for comprehensive exploration of specific topics.

Once fully deployed, Deep Research will be accessible through the Gemini 1.5 Pro model. While the exact rollout timeline remains unclear, it’s anticipated that all compatible iPhones will have access within the next few days. Check your Gemini app to see if the feature is already available to you.
