Circle to Search, a valuable feature for Android users, has received a software update improving its usability. This update introduces a more noticeable vibration pattern, making it easier to recognize when the feature is activated.
This enhanced haptic feedback, as reported by 9to5Google, provides a stronger vibration when long-pressing the Android gesture handle. This distinct tactile response confirms Circle to Search activation, minimizing accidental triggers.
The update is currently available in Google app version 16.4.36, initially rolling out to Pixel devices like the Pixel 9 Pro. It’s expected to reach other Android phones in the near future.
Recent weeks have seen several other improvements to Circle to Search. The pill-shaped container now integrates the search bar, song lookup, and translate shortcut. A new “Get Game Help” chip allows users to quickly search for assistance within games by initiating a Google search with the phrase “Get help with this game.” Further refinements include color and animation adjustments.

Circle to Search empowers users to search directly on their screen without switching apps. After activating the feature and granting necessary permissions in the phone’s settings, users can initiate a search by long-pressing the home button (for three-button navigation) or the navigation handle (for gesture navigation).
This opens the Google Search bar, allowing users to circle, highlight, scribble, or tap on any element of the displayed content, be it image, video, or text. Search results appear at the bottom of the screen, and users can refine their search by entering text in the search bar. Convenient shortcuts for translation and music identification are also integrated.
Initially available on newer Google Pixel devices and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Circle to Search has progressively expanded to other Android devices over the past few months.
The addition of stronger haptics addresses a common user complaint regarding accidental activation. This improvement enhances the overall Circle to Search experience, making it a more intuitive and reliable tool for Android users.
