Google Photos is simplifying its navigation by replacing the “Memories” tab with “Moments.” This minor yet impactful change moves the AI-powered scrapbook feature from the bottom bar into the “Collections” tab, alongside People & Pets, Albums, Documents, and Places.
The update streamlines the Google Photos app, leaving only three tabs in the bottom bar: Photos, Collections, and Search (or Ask for Google Gemini users). Memories, now Moments, will still be accessible via a carousel at the top of the main photo grid.

This cleaner navigation echoes a similar redesign implemented in Google Maps earlier this year.
Moments: Your Digital Scrapbook, Reimagined
Despite the name change, the core functionality remains the same. Moments, like Memories before it, acts as a digital scrapbook, curating collections of photos and videos based on events, trips, or important dates. Google’s AI intelligently selects and organizes these visual stories, making it easy to rediscover cherished memories.
Personalization and Control
Users retain full control over their Moments. You can add or remove content, customize titles, change featured images, and easily share these collections with friends and family. Privacy controls allow you to hide specific Moments, remove individual photos, or even disable the feature entirely.
Enhanced Creativity with AI
Moments often include automatically generated creations such as collages, animations, or stylized photos, adding a touch of artistic flair to your reminiscing. These AI-powered enhancements breathe new life into your memories, making them even more engaging and shareable.

Rollout and Availability
The updated Google Photos app with the Moments feature is already available for iPhones, including the iPhone 16. An Android update for devices like the Google Pixel 9 is expected to arrive on Google Play soon.
This change underscores Google’s commitment to a more streamlined and intuitive user experience within its apps, allowing users to easily navigate and enjoy their digital memories.
