Google has officially launched its AI-powered Scam Detection feature for both calls and messages on Pixel phones, bolstering user protection against increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts. This follows a three-month beta testing period and addresses the growing problem of scams that cost smartphone users millions of dollars annually.
AI-Powered Call Screening
Leveraging the on-device Gemini Nano AI, Pixel phones now analyze ongoing calls in real time. If the AI identifies suspicious patterns, it alerts the user through audio cues, haptic feedback, and an on-screen notification. This proactive approach complements existing spam call blocking by focusing on mid-conversation tactics often employed by scammers.

Importantly, the feature only activates for unsaved numbers and operates entirely on-device, ensuring no audio recordings are stored or transmitted to cloud servers. It’s also disabled by default and can be deactivated during a call.
