The foldable phone market has exploded in recent years, with numerous brands vying for consumer attention. While most manufacturers focus on expanding screen real estate, Infinix is taking a different approach. This Asian, African, and Eastern European phone giant recently teased a revolutionary tri-fold concept that shrinks down to a remarkably compact size.
Infinix’s concept deviates from the standard book-style foldable, opting for dimensions similar to a flip phone. However, instead of folding twice, this innovative device folds three times, resulting in a minimized form factor. This design allows for unprecedented portability and versatility.
Infinix envisions a range of practical applications for their mini tri-fold. The phone can be mounted on bicycles, gym equipment, or even clipped to a pocket or backpack strap like a compact action camera. Partially unfolded, it enables hands-free calling and content viewing. Infinix emphasizes the device’s single-handed usability, blurring the lines between a smartphone and an all-in-one tech companion.
Similar to traditional flip phones, the Infinix concept features screens both inside and out. The design incorporates two hinges, with the bottom hinge likely offering 360-degree rotation. This thicker bottom hinge section also appears to house a functional screen element reminiscent of Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge panels.
While Infinix refers to the tri-fold as “a visionary glimpse into the future,” implying a commercial release isn’t imminent, the company plans to showcase the concept at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025. Whether this will be another digital rendering or a physical prototype remains to be seen. This innovative design could potentially reshape the foldable phone landscape, offering a compelling alternative to the current focus on larger screens.
