Instacart, the popular grocery delivery platform, has launched a new app called Fizz, designed specifically for party planning. Targeting Gen Z and Millennials aged 21 and over, Fizz aims to simplify group ordering of food and drinks for any occasion, from game nights to holiday celebrations.
Fizz offers a collaborative cart feature where the host can invite guests via a link shared in group chats. Each guest can then add their desired items to the cart and pay individually, splitting the cost of snacks, drinks, and party essentials. This approach caters to the evolving social dynamics where cost-sharing and accommodating dietary needs have become increasingly common. Whether it’s chips and dip, charcuterie boards, soda, beer, or non-alcoholic beverages, Fizz streamlines the process of gathering everyone’s contributions. Once the cart is complete, the host can schedule delivery for a specific time or opt for immediate delivery with a flat $5 fee. For orders including alcohol, age verification is required upon delivery.

One of the key advantages of Fizz is its user-friendly approach. Guests don’t need to download the app to contribute to the cart. Furthermore, Fizz simplifies store selection by automatically choosing the nearest store to the party location, unlike Instacart’s traditional model. The app also incorporates a reward system, offering “snack bucks” for drink purchases, which can be used as discounts on future snack orders.
According to TechCrunch, Instacart’s Chief Product Officer, Daniel Danker, recognized a generational shift in party hosting habits. While older generations typically covered all the party expenses, Millennials and Gen Z prefer to share the cost among attendees. Fizz was developed to address this trend, offering a convenient solution for collaborative party planning.
Currently, Fizz is available for download in 30 states, including California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, and Washington, as well as parts of Louisiana, New Mexico, and Nevada. Instacart has not yet announced a timeline for expansion to the remaining states.
While the widespread availability of Fizz is still pending, its unique features and focus on collaborative planning make it a promising app for party organizers, particularly within the Millennial and Gen Z demographics. Its streamlined approach to group ordering and cost-sharing could potentially transform the way parties are planned and provisioned.
