The recently released Apple iPhone 16e is still making its mark, but a leak from Fixed Focus Digital suggests the Apple iPhone 17e is almost certainly on the horizon. Fixed Focus Digital, notably the first to predict the “16e” moniker while others anticipated an “iPhone SE 4,” has hinted at the continuation of this naming convention.

This “1xe” naming structure appears logical. With the apparent discontinuation of the “SE” line, the 16e and its successors are ideally positioned to fill the void. Fixed Focus Digital shared this insight on Weibo, stating, “I see 17e there. The digital e-series is not a short-lived model.” While the original post wasn’t in English, the implication seems clear.

This prediction aligns with forecasts from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP). They suggest, “It appears that ‘e’ phones may be part of the program going forward. Following the core iPhone 17 model launches in September, we expect Apple to announce an iPhone 17e around this time next year.” This strategy mirrors Google’s approach with their Pixel “a” models, released months after the flagship and Pro models.

CIRP, highlighting the similarities between the iPhone 16 and 16e, questions the 16e’s higher price point. Matching the iPhone 14 at $599, the 16e struggles to compete effectively.

They further note the iPhone SE’s “modest” market share, impacting its profitability compared to the more successful iPhone 5c, which transitioned into the SE line after a single generation.

Apple likely intends the iPhone 17e to address the gap left by the iPhone SE. However, the future of the “e” series, including a potential iPhone 18e, hinges on the 17e’s sales performance and market reception.
