The Motorola Razr Plus, Motorola’s flagship clamshell foldable, is anticipated to receive a significant upgrade in 2025. Unlike its predecessors, which have often featured less powerful processors, rumors suggest the 2025 model could finally boast a top-tier Qualcomm chipset.
A recent Geekbench listing, spotted by PhoneArena, reveals a device codenamed “Motorola Razr Ultra” with impressive CPU specifications. The listing indicates an octa-core processor configuration, featuring two cores clocked at 4.32GHz and six cores at 3.53GHz. These specifications align with Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful offering, the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The listing also confirms at least one variant with 12GB of RAM.

The “Ultra” moniker is typically used for Motorola’s top-tier Razr models outside the U.S. If Motorola maintains its naming conventions from 2024, the Razr Plus (2025) might be marketed as the Razr 60 Ultra in regions like Europe and Asia. A recent certification from India’s Bureau of Indian Standards hints at a potential earlier launch date than the typical June timeframe, though the exact date remains undisclosed. Other specifications, however, remain largely unknown due to a lack of leaks.
Since its reintroduction in 2019, the Motorola Razr has carved a niche in the flip-style foldable phone market. Motorola has consistently challenged Samsung, the other major player in this segment, by offering compelling features and competitive pricing. However, one area where Motorola has historically compromised is processing power, frequently opting for chipsets below flagship level. For example, the 2024 Razr Plus featured the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, an upper mid-range chipset, rather than the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

If the recent rumors about the Snapdragon 8 Elite prove accurate, the 2025 Razr Plus could finally become a true competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7, potentially leveling the playing field in terms of performance. This upgrade would address a key weakness of previous Razr models and could make the 2025 iteration a much more compelling option for consumers seeking a powerful and stylish foldable phone. This potential move towards a flagship-level chipset could signify Motorola’s commitment to competing head-to-head with Samsung in the premium foldable phone market.
This upgrade, combined with Motorola’s competitive pricing strategy and iconic design, could position the Razr Plus (2025) as a compelling alternative to Samsung’s offerings.
