The Samsung Galaxy S25 series currently enjoys exclusive access to One UI 7, leaving other Samsung devices facing an unexpected delay. This lag could significantly affect both current and upcoming Samsung phones.

According to sources cited by SAM Mobile, the stable release of One UI 7.0 for non-Galaxy S25 devices is postponed until the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge, anticipated around April. Following the Edge’s release, other devices can expect One UI 7, likely version 7.0.1.

Adding to the concern, this delay might also impact the availability of One UI 7.1, typically released alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 during the summer. These versions traditionally include features exclusive to the foldable models. However, it’s now speculated that these phones might also launch with One UI 7.0.1.

While Samsung has improved its update timelines in recent years, the company has historically been slower than some competitors. This One UI 7.0 delay is particularly frustrating as it also delays the rollout of Android 15, the underlying platform for One UI 7.0, to non-S25 devices.

This situation contrasts sharply with the Pixel ecosystem, where users are already testing beta versions of Android 16. This disparity raises the possibility of premium devices like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 5, initially launched at high prices, lagging a full Android generation behind Pixel phones.

SAM Mobile reports that Google targets a Q2 2025 release for the stable version of Android 16. The first public release of Android 15 arrived in October, initially for Google Pixel devices. Since then, various other manufacturers, including Motorola and OnePlus, have updated their devices. Just a month later, the first Android 16 beta was unveiled, demonstrating a significantly faster release cadence.

Why the Delay?

So far, Samsung has remained silent on the reasons behind the One UI 7.0 delay. This lack of communication is undoubtedly disappointing for millions of Samsung users.

The Impact on Samsung Users

The delay creates uncertainty and potential frustration for Samsung owners. Users anticipating the latest features and performance improvements of Android 15 and One UI 7 are left waiting. Furthermore, the potential lag behind other Android devices raises questions about the long-term software support for Samsung’s non-flagship models.

Looking Ahead

While the delay is unwelcome news, the eventual arrival of One UI 7 and Android 15 is still anticipated. Hopefully, Samsung will address the concerns of its users by providing more information about the delay and a clearer timeline for the upcoming updates. Until then, Samsung owners will have to patiently await the latest software advancements.
