Oura, the maker of the popular Oura Ring sleep and activity tracker, has announced a strategic partnership with Dexcom, a leader in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). This collaboration will integrate Dexcom’s CGM data into the Oura app, providing users with deeper insights into their health. Reciprocally, Oura’s data will also be incorporated into Dexcom’s apps, offering a comprehensive view of the user’s well-being. This announcement follows closely on the heels of the recent Oura Ring 4 launch.

Dexcom’s CGM wearables continuously monitor glucose levels, aiding individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in managing their blood sugar. This data, typically displayed on smartphones and smartwatches, will soon be accessible within the Oura Ring app. Furthermore, the partnership facilitates a two-way data exchange, with Oura’s sleep and activity metrics informing Dexcom’s app.

According to Matt Dolan, Dexcom’s Executive Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development, “Dexcom provides highly accurate glucose biosensors, revealing how daily lifestyle choices impact glucose levels. Partnering with Oura allows us to further innovate by combining Dexcom’s glucose data with Oura Ring’s continuous insights. This powerful combination will attract users seeking a better understanding of the relationship between activity, sleep, nutrition, and glucose.”

Oura CEO, Tom Hale, added, “This partnership empowers our members to make informed decisions and adjust behaviors to positively impact their biometrics and long-term health. Together, Oura and Dexcom will help members make informed choices about their diet by highlighting correlations between activities like sleep, exercise, and glucose levels. Because individual responses to foods and activities vary, this guidance will be personalized.”

This partnership transcends a simple data-sharing agreement. Dexcom has invested $75 million in Oura as part of its latest funding round, solidifying the strategic nature of this collaboration. Both companies will also cross-market and sell each other’s products.

While the announcement is exciting, integration into both apps is not immediate. Oura and Dexcom anticipate the initial phase of integration to be completed during the first half of 2025.
