The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series is inching closer to its official launch, as three devices have recently received certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This certification typically indicates an impending release. However, the absence of a fourth device, rumored to be the Galaxy S25 Slim, raises questions about its existence and potential release plans.
The FCC documents identify the certified devices by their model numbers: SM-S931B/DS, SM-S936B/DS, and SM-S938B/DS. These align with the typical model number progression for the Galaxy S series, following the SM-S921 (Galaxy S24), SM-S926 (Galaxy S24+), and SM-S928 (Galaxy S24 Ultra). The “B” designation indicates international variants, while “DS” signifies dual-SIM support.
Rumors have circulated about a fourth Galaxy S25 model, often referred to as the “Slim,” with the model number SM-S937B/DS. This model number fits neatly within the sequence of the confirmed devices, and the “B” suggests an international release. The absence of this model from the FCC certification creates uncertainty. It’s possible Samsung is intentionally withholding it from public records, or the device may be facing delays or a limited release strategy.
The FCC certification provides some insights into the Galaxy S25 series’ features. The standard Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ models appear to retain 25W wired charging and wireless charging, similar to their predecessors. While the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s charging specifications aren’t explicitly mentioned, it’s anticipated to continue using the 45W charging system of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. As expected, all three models support NFC, Wi-Fi, and 5G connectivity.
Interestingly, the FCC listing reveals Ultra Wideband (UWB) support for all three international Galaxy S25 models. However, UWB support seems to be absent from the U.S. version of the standard Galaxy S25. This omission would restrict U.S. users of the base model from accessing UWB-dependent features like digital car keys and precise tracking with devices like the Samsung SmartTag 2, requiring them to opt for the S25+ or S25 Ultra for these functionalities.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S25 series at an Unpacked event in early 2025.
