Renowned tipster ICE CAT recently hinted on X that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be the world’s thinnest foldable phone. According to the leak, the Z Fold 7 will measure a mere 3.9mm when unfolded and just 8.9mm when folded, surpassing both the Honor Magic V3 and the Oppo Find N5 in slimness.

This represents a significant reduction in thickness compared to its predecessor, the Z Fold 6, shaving off an impressive 3.2mm in folded mode. These dimensions are remarkably similar to the Oppo Find N5, which measures 4.21mm unfolded and 8.93mm folded.

ICE CAT also suggests the Z Fold 7 will incorporate new battery and charging technologies, despite retaining the same 4,400mAh battery capacity as the Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 5. This implies the new tech will focus on improved efficiency, potentially leading to longer battery life. More details are anticipated at the Galaxy Unpacked event in July, where both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are expected to be unveiled.

The Z Flip 7 is rumored to feature a 4,300mAh battery, a notable increase from the Z Flip 6’s 4,000mAh. ICE CAT further added that the “basic version of Galaxy S26 will continue to be thin.”

While a thin foldable phone, ideally no thicker than a regular smartphone when folded, is appealing, the sub-4mm unfolded thickness of the Z Fold 7 raises concerns about battery capacity and overall device durability. It remains to be seen how Samsung will address these potential drawbacks during the Unpacked event and convince consumers of the Z Fold 7’s value proposition.

ICE CAT’s leak also mentions the “basic version of Galaxy S26 will continue to be thin,” further emphasizing Samsung’s pursuit of slimmer devices across its product lineup. This could signify a broader trend in smartphone design, but it also highlights the potential trade-offs between thinness and other crucial aspects like battery life and structural integrity.
