Timex is collaborating with Pison, a neural-sensing technology company, to integrate brain-tracking capabilities into a new line of wearables slated for release in early 2025. This partnership hints at the potential for a new Timex smartwatch powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 processor.

Pison’s technology employs electroneurography (ENG), using a skin biosensor to measure physiological electricity from the brain. Combined with AI-powered algorithms, this platform provides insights into mental health, sleep quality, sports performance, and overall brain health, much like a heart rate sensor for the brain. Working with STMicroelectronics, Pison has miniaturized its ENG biosensor for wearables, integrating it with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 platform—already featured in smartwatches like the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 series. Pison currently offers a wristband utilizing this technology, aimed at enhancing mind-body fitness and sharpening mental skills.

The upcoming Timex wearable promises to go beyond typical fitness tracking, offering insights into mental well-being. It will track metrics such as sleep patterns, anxiety levels, fatigue, and alertness. Furthermore, the device aims to assist athletes in improving cognitive abilities. The technology also holds potential for monitoring neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and ALS, and assessing the impact of head trauma in contact sports and military applications.

Timex has previous experience with smartwatches and wellness products, including the Metropolitan R and the Teslar Watch. The partnership with Pison aligns with a growing trend of brain-tracking wearables from companies like Alphabeats, aiming to improve sports performance, focus, and stress reduction.

Timex plans to launch its first brain-tracking wearable with Pison’s technology in Spring 2025. The likely inclusion of the Snapdragon W5 platform suggests the potential use of Google’s Wear OS software.
