Satellite communication technology is transforming how we stay connected, and Verizon is at the forefront of this evolution. Following the launch of emergency SOS via satellite, Verizon is expanding its satellite-based texting capabilities to include non-emergency communication for users of the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 series. This innovative service empowers users to send text messages to any other mobile device via satellite, bridging the connectivity gap in areas beyond the reach of traditional cellular networks.
“Verizon is dedicated to empowering our customers’ lives,” stated Joe Russo, EVP & President, Global Network and Technology, in a recent announcement. “Our network, already the largest in America, covers 99% of where people live, work, and play. This expansion of satellite texting underscores our commitment to keeping customers connected, no matter their location. We understand our customers’ high expectations, and we remain committed to innovating on their behalf.”
This new feature addresses the need for communication in urgent, yet non-life-threatening, scenarios. Imagine being stranded roadside with weak cellular signal – with Verizon’s satellite texting, you can transmit your location and a message to a friend, family member, or roadside assistance.

Currently, this service is limited to the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 series, excluding iPhone users. While this restriction leaves many unable to utilize satellite texting, Verizon plans to expand compatibility to a broader range of devices in the future.
The rollout of this new feature began in March 2025 and will continue over the following weeks. Whether this requires a device update is not yet specified, but users are encouraged to monitor for system updates.
