Visual Intelligence, a key feature of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro series, is making its way to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This exciting news comes after the recent announcement that the new iPhone 16e also supports Visual Intelligence.
Originally believed to be exclusive to iPhones with Camera Control and Apple Intelligence, like the iPhone 16 lineup, Visual Intelligence uses the iPhone’s camera to interact with the world. This feature allows users to gain information, translate languages, identify flora and fauna, and summarize text simply by pointing their camera at the subject. It also facilitates connections with businesses by providing contact information, operating hours, and even the ability to place orders or make reservations. Furthermore, Visual Intelligence integrates with ChatGPT and Google, enabling users to ask questions about what they see and search for similar items online.
According to Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, Apple has indicated that Visual Intelligence will arrive on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max via a future iOS update, likely iOS 18.4. This makes sense, as these two models are the only pre-iPhone 16 phones equipped with Apple Intelligence, a requirement for the feature.
Visual Intelligence was initially released with iOS 18.2 and is currently available on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series. The recent inclusion of this feature on the iPhone 16e, a device without Camera Control, further expands its availability.
Apple has stated that iOS 18.4 will be publicly available in early April, shortly after the iPhone 16e’s release on February 28th. While the first developer beta of iOS 18.4 has yet to be released, it’s expected soon, paving the way for iPhone 15 Pro owners to experience Visual Intelligence firsthand.
The iPhone 16e is available for pre-order starting February 21st.
