WhatsApp is introducing several new features, including photo collages for status updates, threaded message replies, and broadcast message limits, aimed at improving user experience and reducing spam.
The most notable update is the collage feature for status updates. Discovered in WhatsApp version 2.25.8.5 by Android Authority, this feature allows users to combine up to six photos in various grid layouts. A new “Layout” button will appear when posting a media status, giving access to these options. Users can also rearrange the images within the chosen layout for optimal presentation.
Beyond collages, WhatsApp is also streamlining conversations with threaded replies. Recently released in a beta version for Android, this feature organizes replies within a message thread, reducing clutter and making it easier to follow conversations.
To combat spam, WhatsApp is implementing monthly limits on broadcast messages. Individual users will be able to send approximately 30 broadcast messages per month, averaging one per day. For reaching larger groups, WhatsApp recommends using Status updates or the newer Channels feature.
Business accounts will have a separate limit of 250 free customized broadcast messages per month. Beyond this, businesses will incur a fee for additional messages related to product updates, promotions, or other customer communications. This paid broadcast feature from Meta is expected to roll out in the coming months, with pricing details yet to be announced.
While these features are under development, they are not yet fully functional for all users. The collage feature, for example, is currently visible in the beta version but doesn’t allow users to actually post the final collage. Full functionality is expected upon public release.
