The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 50-series, specifically the RTX 5090, has made an unexpected debut, not in the gaming world, but within a high-end server. Comino, a company specializing in data center design and construction, is offering preorders for its Grando Server featuring six or eight RTX 5090 GPUs. This surprising appearance raises questions about the RTX 5090’s availability for gamers and its potential pricing.

While Nvidia has yet to officially announce the RTX 50-series or confirm the existence of an RTX 5090, Comino’s preorders suggest its imminent arrival. This raises concerns for gamers, as the RTX 5090 was expected to be a consumer-grade graphics card. However, given the high demand for the RTX 4090 due to its AI capabilities, it’s likely the even more powerful RTX 5090 will also attract significant interest from AI professionals and researchers.

The pricing of Comino’s Grando Server is even more startling than its early appearance. HardwareLuxx obtained quotes from Comino, revealing a price tag of 40,000 euros (approximately $42,200) for the six-GPU configuration and 50,000 euros (approximately $52,750) for the eight-GPU version. This translates to a staggering $4,000 to $5,000 per RTX 5090 GPU within the server.

This exorbitant price undoubtedly reflects the cost of Comino’s custom liquid cooling solutions and other high-end components integrated into the server. The Grando Server boasts an AMD EPYC processor with 32 cores, 256GB of RAM, and 1TB of NVMe storage. According to VideoCardz, the custom liquid cooling system likely extends to the GPUs themselves, differentiating them from the consumer versions expected to be released later.

While the server’s pricing provides a glimpse into the potential cost of the RTX 5090, it’s unlikely to reflect the actual retail price of the consumer version. Industry leaks suggest a retail price closer to $2,000, still a significant increase compared to previous generations.

With rumors pointing to a CES 2025 launch in January, it won’t be long before we have official confirmation from Nvidia regarding the RTX 5090’s specifications, pricing, and availability for both consumers and professional markets.
