LG is set to make waves at CES 2025 with the announcement of two impressive additions to its UltraGear GX9 OLED gaming monitor lineup. Prepare for the world’s first 5K bendable OLED gaming monitor, a 45-inch behemoth, alongside a 39-inch “smart” gaming monitor integrated with webOS.
This article delves into the specifications and features of these cutting-edge displays, highlighting their potential to revolutionize the gaming experience.
The World’s First 5K Bendable OLED Gaming Monitor
The star of the show is undoubtedly the 45-inch UltraGear 45GX990A, boasting a groundbreaking 5120 x 2160 (5K2K) resolution. This marks not only the first 5K OLED monitor but also the first gaming monitor to achieve this remarkable resolution, typically reserved for professional-grade displays like the Apple Studio Display. With a pixel density of 125 pixels per inch and utilizing LG’s WOLED technology (distinct from Samsung’s QD-OLEDs), the 45GX990A promises stunning visuals.

Furthermore, the 45GX990A features a bendable panel, capable of transitioning from a flat screen to an immersive 900R curve in seconds. While bendable OLED monitors aren’t entirely new (Corsair’s Xeneon Flex and LG’s OLED Flex predate it), the 45GX990A stands apart with its superior 5K resolution and expansive 45-inch, 21:9 aspect ratio display.
Enhanced Dual-Mode Functionality
LG has also upgraded its Dual-Mode functionality, previously seen in last year’s models. This feature allows users to switch between different resolution and refresh rate combinations to optimize performance for various games. While specific presets and native resolution refresh rates haven’t been disclosed yet, LG has confirmed that the second-generation Dual-Mode offers eight configurations, including switching between 21:9 and 16:9 aspect ratios and simulated screen sizes of 39, 34, and 27 inches.

For those who prefer a static display, LG is also releasing the 45GX950A, a non-bendable version with the same 5K resolution and advanced Dual-Mode features. Pricing and availability for both models are yet to be announced.
The Smart Gaming Monitor: UltraGear 39GX90SA
Alongside the 5K giants, LG introduces the UltraGear 39GX90SA, a 39-inch smart gaming monitor powered by webOS, the operating system found in LG televisions. This integration enables standalone functionality without the need for a PC or streaming device, a growing trend in the smart monitor market. The 39GX90SA is a first for gaming monitors, combining smart capabilities with a 39-inch, 21:9 curved (800R) OLED display and a distinctive L-shaped stand. The refresh rate for this model has yet to be confirmed.
Looking Ahead to CES 2025
LG’s latest UltraGear monitors promise a compelling blend of innovation and performance. With the introduction of the world’s first 5K bendable OLED gaming monitor and a smart 39-inch display, LG is poised to redefine the gaming landscape. More details, including pricing and availability, are expected to be revealed at CES 2025.
