Norton is bolstering its security offerings with the introduction of Genie AI scam protection, designed to safeguard users from various online threats, including fraudulent texts, calls, emails, and websites, as reported by Tech Radar. This new feature analyzes not only links but also the semantic meaning of text to identify hidden scam patterns.
Norton Genie aims to provide a proactive, “set it and forget it” security solution that anticipates and mitigates threats. Subscribers of Norton 360 with LifeLock Ultimate Plus receive additional benefits, including Reimbursement coverage and dedicated Scam support, further enhancing their protection against online risks.
Genie Scam Protection is integrated for free with Norton Antivirus Plus, Norton Mobile Security, and all Norton 360 plans. Furthermore, an AI-powered “scam assistant” within the Norton Genie AI app offers users real-time guidance on potential scams and suspicious activity.
Currently, these AI-powered tools are available in the US, with availability in other regions expected in the future. The integration of AI into cybersecurity represents a crucial advancement in combating increasingly sophisticated online threats. According to Leena Elias, Chief Product Officer at Gen, attackers have been leveraging AI for some time, utilizing it to accelerate their schemes and enhance their believability. Elias emphasizes the need for advanced technology to counter these threats, stating, “Scammers are tapping into AI to speed up their schemes and make them more believable. Couple that with the sheer volume of emails, texts, and calls we’re getting every day; it’s clear we need technology on our side to help us avoid becoming the next scam victim.”
The increasing volume of digital communication, coupled with the sophisticated tactics employed by scammers, underscores the importance of proactive security measures like Norton’s Genie AI. This technology promises to provide users with a more robust defense against the evolving landscape of online fraud.
