Nvidia’s latest Game Ready drivers are causing problems for many users, particularly those with RTX 40 and 50 series graphics cards. Reports of crashes, black screens, BSODs, and game launch issues are surfacing across online communities like Reddit. These problems appear to be primarily linked to driver versions 572.xx and later, coinciding with the release of the RTX 50 series.
A comprehensive Reddit thread compiled by user Scotty1992 highlights the widespread nature of these issues. Users with RTX 40 series cards, including the 4090 and 4080, seem particularly affected. However, reports from RTX 50 series owners suggest the problems aren’t limited to the older generation. Complaints range from system-wide crashes in games like Cyberpunk 2077 to monitor issues requiring reboots or cable replugging after idle periods. One user reported a previously stable 3080 experiencing similar problems after three years of flawless performance.

The most common complaint revolves around PC crashes, with Cyberpunk 2077 being frequently cited as a trigger. While rolling back to driver version 566.xx appears to resolve the issues for some, this workaround shouldn’t be necessary for proper GPU functionality. The problems seem to have emerged following the launch of the RTX 50 series and the accompanying driver optimizations for cards like the RTX 5090, 5080, and 5070 Ti.
While the RTX 50 series launch has faced its own challenges, including limited stock, hardware controversies, and high pricing, previous generations had remained largely unaffected until these recent driver issues. While not all users are experiencing problems, caution is advised. If you own an RTX GPU, delaying driver updates might be prudent until Nvidia addresses these issues.
