The persistent shortage of Nvidia’s RTX 5090 GPUs may soon be alleviated thanks to a resourceful solution. Online leaks suggest Nvidia might repurpose excess components from its B200 data center GPUs to ramp up RTX 5090 production.
The shortage, initially attributed to scalpers and overwhelming demand, could be resolved if Nvidia adopts this innovative strategy. Leaker @Zed__Wang on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted the potential solution: utilizing the oversupply of Nvidia B200 data center GPUs.
With the demand for B200 chips dwindling, Nvidia is reportedly exploring the possibility of incorporating the excess GB100 dies from these GPUs into the GB202 architecture of the RTX 5090. This strategic move could effectively address the ongoing supply constraints.

The RTX 5090 is not the only GPU facing delays. The RTX 5080 also launched in January with severely limited availability due to a combination of high demand and scalper activity. Currently, there’s no information regarding potential improvements to RTX 5080 availability.
The RTX 50 series for laptops and desktops has also been delayed until at least March. Several unconfirmed reasons for these delays circulate, including Nvidia’s prioritization of AI GPUs and potential internal miscommunication. Reports also suggest performance and functionality issues with certain cards. Despite the delay, pre-orders for the RTX 50 series will open on February 25.
The RTX 60 and RTX 70 GPUs are also facing delays, pushing their release back to April. However, the RTX 5070 Ti is on track for a timely launch on February 20.
