The impending arrival of Nvidia’s RTX 50-series graphics cards signals the imminent demise of several current RTX 40-series GPUs. According to a post on the Board Channels forums, popular cards like the budget-friendly RTX 4060 are nearing the end of their production cycle.

This isn’t entirely unexpected. Reports have circulated for months about Nvidia phasing out its last-generation lineup. The RTX 4090 was the first to be discontinued, followed by the RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 (including Super and Ti variants), according to unofficial sources. Leaks from Board Channels suggest the RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti are the only 40-series cards still in production, but their days are also numbered.

The leak indicates that RTX 4060/Ti production will cease in the first quarter of 2025. This raises concerns for budget-conscious consumers hoping for price drops and also sparks curiosity about the release timeline of their successors, which haven’t been officially announced. While the RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti are expected in February, Nvidia remains silent on the RTX 5060.

Even after reaching end-of-life (EOL) status, the RTX 4060 may remain available for some time, depending on existing stock levels. We might see it on retailer shelves throughout the year. However, with the RTX 5060 potentially launching in March, Nvidia might limit RTX 4060 supply to encourage upgrades to the newer generation.

Production has reportedly stopped, and Board Channels claims inventory will be depleted by the end of January. Once retailers sell their remaining stock, the RTX 4070 will be gone, except for the refurbished market.

Many gamers rely on previous-generation GPUs for affordable PC builds. This is a common strategy with AMD, where RDNA 2 and even RDNA 3 cards are widely available. However, Nvidia appears to be taking a different approach. If you’re considering an RTX 4060, it’s advisable to act quickly.
