The Nvidia RTX 4060 has cemented its position as the most popular graphics card among Steam gamers, surpassing even its predecessors and solidifying its dominance in the 1080p gaming segment. This achievement is largely attributed to its attractive price point and capable performance, making it a compelling choice for casual gamers, esports enthusiasts, and budget-conscious PC builders.
According to the February 2025 Steam Hardware and Software Survey, the RTX 4060 boasts an 8.57% market share, overtaking previously dominant budget GPUs like the GTX 1650 and RTX 3060. This rise is fueled by its competitive price, typically ranging between $300 and $350, its low power consumption, and support for modern gaming features such as DLSS 3 and ray tracing.
The RTX 4060 offers notable advancements over the RTX 3060, particularly in ray tracing performance, DLSS 3 frame generation, and overall efficiency. Despite some criticisms regarding its 8GB VRAM and narrower memory bus, it remains a highly effective solution for 1080p gaming, which aligns perfectly with the majority of Steam users’ display resolutions. Currently, the RTX 4060 maintains a price range similar to the RTX 3060, hovering between $300 and $350.

The RTX 3060, while still holding a respectable 6.87% market share (a 1.67% increase from the previous month), has been eclipsed by the 4060’s popularity. Other Nvidia cards have also experienced significant growth, with the RTX 4060 Ti rising by 3.11% to a 6.56% share, and the RTX 4070 gaining 2.54% to reach a 5.43% share.
These survey results underscore Nvidia’s firm grip on the PC gaming GPU market, occupying the majority of the top spots. AMD and Intel continue to face challenges in gaining significant traction in the consumer segment. Even with the anticipated release of Nvidia’s RTX 50-series later this year, the RTX 4060’s affordability and accessibility ensure its continued relevance for budget-minded gamers.
As the market anticipates the arrival of new graphics cards, including the RTX 50-series and AMD’s Radeon 9000 range, it remains to be seen whether the RTX 4060 can maintain its leading position. The competition in the mid-range GPU segment is heating up, and it will be interesting to observe which card emerges as the preferred choice in the coming months.
