The upcoming RTX 5060 and RX 9060 XT have captured the attention of the mainstream graphics card market. However, recent leaks suggest Nvidia is preparing a more powerful GPU for later this year: the RTX 5080 Super (or Ti). Could this card finally live up to the high expectations set for the 5000 series?
A leak originating from Baidu forums, and later shared by Wccftech, claims an RTX 5080S or RTX 5080 Ti is slated for a late 2025 release. While specific specifications remain scarce, the leaker, a Baidu forum moderator, asserts with “basic certainty” that the new GPU will feature 24GB of VRAM—an 8GB increase over the standard RTX 5080 and matching the RTX 4090’s memory capacity.
The RTX 5080, upon its release, fell short of replacing the RTX 4090, even with overclocking. This rumored Super variant, however, depending on its final specifications, might offer a more competitive challenge to the Ada flagship.

Increased VRAM alone won’t guarantee a significant performance boost. A wider memory bus and a higher CUDA core count are also crucial for enhanced bandwidth and processing power. The RTX 4080 Super, for example, only saw a marginal CUDA core increase and no memory interface changes compared to the base RTX 4080, resulting in a performance uplift of just 1-3%.
The potential for an end-of-2025 launch is particularly intriguing. This deviates from Nvidia’s typical Super refresh cycle, which usually occurs at the beginning of the year, roughly a year after the initial card launch (as seen with the RTX 4080).
Should these rumors prove accurate, a formal announcement from Nvidia likely won’t surface until the final quarter of 2025. For now, patience is key.
