Users began reporting the ChatGPT outage on Downdetector shortly before 12 a.m. PDT on June 10. This significant service disruption affects global users of key OpenAI platforms, including the widely-used AI assistant and the Sora image generator.
Pattern of Previous Disruptions
This is not an unprecedented event for OpenAI. The AI research and deployment company experienced a similar widespread outage in December 2024, resulting in approximately four hours of downtime. Another significant disruption occurred in June 2024, which lasted for about five hours.
OpenAI’s Acknowledgement and Fix
The current OpenAI outage has already extended beyond the seven-hour mark, causing prolonged access issues for its services. OpenAI officially addressed the ongoing problem at 7:16 a.m. PDT, confirming that its engineering teams are “working on a fix” to restore normal service operations.
