Last year at CES, a prototype Samsung gaming monitor showcasing glasses-free 3D technology left a lasting impression. Playing Lies of P, a demanding game, in 3D without glasses amidst the chaos of a half-built demo area was a remarkable experience. Now, at CES 2025, Samsung is ready to bring this technology to market with the Odyssey 3D.
Glasses-free 3D monitors aren’t entirely new, but the Odyssey 3D distinguishes itself from competitors like the Acer Predator SpatialLabs View 27 through its innovative approach to 3D imaging. Unlike other solutions requiring specific game integration, Samsung’s Odyssey 3D utilizes light field display (LFD) technology to generate 3D visuals from standard 2D content.
This is achieved through a lenticular lens on the monitor’s front panel, splitting the image delivered to each eye. By providing slightly different perspectives, the Odyssey 3D simulates a convincing 3D effect. A built-in stereo camera and continuous view mapping track eye movement, ensuring the 3D illusion remains consistent even as the viewer’s position shifts.

The prototype from last year was remarkably immersive. A year of further development promises even more impressive performance from the final product.
The name “2D/3D monitor” accurately reflects its dual functionality. Besides simulating 3D from 2D content, the Odyssey 3D also functions as a standard 2D monitor. The specifications are compelling: a 27-inch display with a crisp 4K resolution, a rapid 165Hz refresh rate, and a 1ms gray-to-gray response time.
However, Samsung is still holding back some key details. Information on available ports, release date, and crucially, the price of the Odyssey 3D remains undisclosed. Given the advanced technology, a premium price tag is anticipated. We’ll have to wait for Samsung to share further information.
