Verizon’s 5G Home Plus internet service has seen a shift in its discount structure, potentially impacting new customers. While the advertised price remains at $80/month, the discount applied has changed, creating a price disparity between existing and new subscribers.
Previously, new customers enjoyed a $35 discount, bringing the monthly cost down to $45. However, as reported on Reddit and highlighted by Android Authority, this discount has been reduced to $25. This means new 5G Home Plus subscribers will now pay $55 per month, a $10 increase compared to existing customers who continue to benefit from the original discount.
Verizon is sweetening the deal for new customers by including a free subscription perk. New subscribers can choose between popular bundles like Netflix and Max, Apple Music, or the Disney+ bundle. Each of these perks carries an approximate value of $10, effectively offsetting the increased cost for some users.
This adjustment comes just a month after Verizon announced a price hike for its Mobile Protect plans for customers with four or more lines. That increase, adding $8 to the monthly cost, brought the total for phone insurance to $68, effective March 27.
While the $10 difference for the 5G Home Plus internet service may seem minimal, especially with the added subscription perk, it represents a shift in value proposition. The inclusion of the perk feels more like a justification for a price increase than a genuine enhancement of the service, especially for those who might not utilize the offered subscriptions. This move could be seen as a way to subtly raise prices for new customers while maintaining the appearance of a consistent offering.
