LG smartphone users need to act: the company will permanently shut down its update servers on June 30, 2025. This means no more official Android updates or access to LG’s software management tools after this date.
This shutdown impacts the Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) upgrade service, the Update Center app, and the LG Bridge PC software. These tools, used for device management, data backups, and updates via computer, will cease functioning at midnight Korea time (GMT +9) on June 30th.
It’s crucial for LG smartphone users to install any pending updates before the deadline. If you rely on LG Bridge for backups and data management, secure your data before the servers go offline.
End of an Era for LG Mobile
While LG’s decision to end support after leaving the mobile market is understandable, it’s a final call for remaining users to update their devices and prepare for the end of official software support. After June 30, 2025, LG will no longer provide official updates or support.
LG officially exited the smartphone market in 2021. The LG Wing 5G, launched in October 2020, is often remembered as their last flagship device. Its unique swiveling dual-screen design showcased LG’s innovative spirit.
Other notable LG phones released before their exit include the design-focused LG Velvet series, the multimedia-centric LG V60 ThinQ 5G, the budget-friendly stylus-equipped LG Stylo 6, and the mid-range 5G-enabled LG K92 5G.
Looking Ahead for LG Users
Interestingly, there were reports late last year suggesting LG might re-enter the smartphone market. However, nothing has materialized so far.
Fortunately, numerous Android-based smartphone options are available for LG users. Popular choices include phones from Samsung, OnePlus, Google, and many more.
It’s important for LG users to recognize this deadline and take necessary steps to ensure their data is backed up and their devices are updated. This will help them transition smoothly to alternative Android devices and minimize disruption.
